Join the Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery Division (OMTID) of the PTA where we are responsible for managing the delivery of complex, high value, high risk public transport infrastructure.

The Role

The Project Track Engineering Manager within the OMTID manages and technically directs the planning, design, development, implementation and review of railway track for projects undertaken by the Project Delivery agencies of the PTA.

The role is also responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and expert advice in relation to new construction, alterations, and maintenance of track assets in compliance with relevant standards, Codes of Practice and to satisfy the Rail Safety National Law.

About you

The successful candidate will have highly developed Communication and Interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences and demonstrated leadership skills and strategic perspective in relation to rail infrastructure systems.

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Possession of a tertiary qualification in Engineering with eligibility for Membership of Engineers Australia
  • Considerable experience in the planning, design, procurement, construction and maintenance of railways including the following elements:
  • rails and track geometry, sleepers and slab track, ballast and formation capping layer;
  • An understanding of the interrelationship of track with:
  • Subgrade, drainage, civil works, structures, geotechnical conditions, overhead electrified equipment, railway signals and communications and associated systems.
  • Demonstrated management skills including resource, people and project management, converting strategies into operational plans, and achieving operational outcomes.
  • The ability to analyse and present complex technical matters and undertake benefits assessment for different systems and relate systems to whole of life cost of railway assets.

There is currently one (1) full time fixed term position available until 30 June 2026 with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency. Initially this selection process will be used to fill the above vacancy, but it may also be used to appoint to similar positions that may arise in the agency within the next twelve (12) months on a permanent or fixed-term basis with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency.
