The People, Property and Security Division works in partnership to deliver strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability. The division provides stewardship, support, and services across integrity; conduct; property; fraud and corruption; security; performance management; rehabilitation management; recruitment; learning and development; inclusion and diversity; workforce planning and analytics; workplace relations; people support; culture and health, safety and wellbeing.
The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, recruitment, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation.
The Job

A can-do attitude and capability to provide professional and technical HR advice is a must.
The HR Advisor role includes a range of duties as below:
- Providing advice to employees on a wide range of human resource management matters within an Australian Public Service (APS) context.
- Find solutions and answers independently and escalate any sensitive or complex matters accordingly.
- Assist with the development of policy and procedures to maintain best practice within the People Support team.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation.
- Implementing improvements to work processes and tasks to achieve efficiencies and meet service level standards.

- Effective communication skills, the ability to develop and maintaining productive working relationships both internally and externally.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced role in a government context.
- Proven in the provision of high-quality HR advice and support across a diverse organisation.
- Demonstrated experience applying the employment framework and relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Public Service Act 1999, Fair Work Act 2009 and Privacy Act 1988.
Eligibility
Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance – This position requires a No security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment Check – Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
MSIC and ASIC Licences – If the position requires unescorted access within an aviation or maritime security zone, you will be required to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
