What you’ll be doing

NSW Sexual Health Info Link (SHIL) performs a range of activities to the NSW general public and health professionals, which includes:

  • Providing internet and telephone-based information and referral regarding Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs); and prioritising care according to the NSW STI strategy 2022-2026, the NSW Hepatitis C Strategy 2022-2025 and the NSW HIV strategy 2021-2025.
  • Partnering with publically funded sexual health services (PFSHS) to make access to testing and treatment easier for priority populations. This includes triage, prioritising, transferring or booking appointments for callers.
  • Providing clinical HIV and STI testing, treatment and management information and resources to health professionals, including General Practitioners (GPs).
  • Supporting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post Exposure Prophlaxis (PEP) access and information.
  • Delivering positive HIV, Hepatitis C and STI pathology test results for people who test via internet and outreach-based projects, such as:
  • NSW dried blood spot (DBS) project (www.dbstest.health.nsw.gov.au).
  • MyCheck.
  • University of NSW (UNSW) STI testing kiosk.
  • Providing clinical support as the avatar Nurse Nettie on the NSW Play Safe (www.playsafe.health.nsw.gov.au) website;
  • Aid in the delivery of a HIV and STI partner notification, including Internet Partner Notification Services for people difficult to reach.
  • Provide project management skills across SHIL service and represent SHIL service at stakeholder meeting.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Holds or is willing to work towards relevant post graduate qualifications in HIV and sexual health nursing.
  • At least 3 years recent experience working in the Sexual Health clinical area preferred.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to triage, identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply professional, personal and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  • Experience working independently on projects such as audits and quality improvement activities and ability to maintain deadlines.
  • Clinical experience with HIV and STI partner notification.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft and internet-based social networking websites and proven ability to use health information systems.
