Reports to: Headmaster

Work Hours/Days: School days (normally 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.) and staff work days during the school year, with project-based work during summer and breaks.

Desired Start Date: August 1, 2024 (Summer training at Hillsdale College’s K-12 Office is a possibility in mid-June)

Salary Range:$65,000-$75,000 annually

We are looking for a Dean of Student Services who can lead our Student Services department. As the member of the leadership team for a new and growing classical charter school, the Dean of Student Services supports school operations in a variety of ways, including as testing coordinator, and oversees reporting and compliance tasks including those related to English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, Multi-tier System of Support, and Section 504 accommodation plans.

Located in Brighton, CO, just 3 miles from I-25, Ascent Classical of Northern Denver is a growing school of over 200 students that currently offers grades K-7 with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year.

This position collaborates closely with the Headmaster in setting priorities for promoting our vision for an excellent American Classical Education for all our students.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the education of students with IEP, ELL, and 504 plans, consistent with our content-rich curriculum:
  • Track timelines for IEP and 504 meetings
  • Collaborate with staff to set up IEP/504 meetings and send out Meeting Notices
  • Collaborate with staff, related service providers, and parents to collect student information to prepare IEP/504 documents
  • Prepare IEP/504 Documents
  • Lead IEP/504 meetings
  • Finalize compliant IEP/504 documents
  • Collaborate with staff and related service providers on progress reports
  • Write and distribute progress reports to parents
  • Update caseload documents, and maintain SPED programs in the Student Information System (PowerSchool) * Assist and supervise general education teachers to meet individual educational goals for students with IEPs and ELLs
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to student services programming
  • Collaborative work with the headmaster to recruit and hire the best SPED staff for positions that will meet the individual needs of students
  • Coordination with outside providers including itinerant services with approval by ACAND and the Governing Board, to ensure services align with student needs
  • Management and monitoring of progress tracking within the school information system
  • Supervision of paraprofessionals and student services staff
  • Management and monitoring of student documentation within the school information system
  • Engage in effective communication with parents and teachers
  • Appropriately facilitate formal student meetings with parents or other attendees
  • Set budget priorities for the student services department and have general knowledge of the department’s fiscal status
  • Oversee and ensure accurate reporting of students with specialized programming
  • Close coordination with the Assistant Headmaster regarding services for incoming students
  • Educate school faculty and staff regarding student services programming, including by preparing and presenting written and oral information
  • Maintain academic integrity and mission alignment in modifications and accommodations for students in specialized programming
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance
  • Maintain professional appearance and adhere to relevant health and safety procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree (preferred)
  • Current Colorado licensure
  • Campus leadership experience in Special Education (two years)
  • Three or more years of relevant experience including familiarity with special education laws and regulations
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver
  • Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
  • Superior organization, communication, and computer skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to support the school leadership team as needed
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and the Colorado Department of Education
  • Understanding of and commitment to classical education
  • Adherence to all ACAND policies

Physical Requirements:

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS. Through this partnership, MEG provides employment services, a personnel system for human resources, benefits, payroll services, and access to a 401(k) plan. For naming purposes, Minga Education Group is the employer.
