About the Commission

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (the Commission) is an independent statutory body established to promote integrity within South Australian public administration. The Commission investigates reports of corruption within public administration and actively prevents corruption by undertaking evaluations of the practices, policies and procedures of public agencies. The Commission also delivers education programs which seek to guide the conduct of public officers in the South Australian public sector.

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Legal Officer to play a critical role in supporting the Commission to achieve its statutory functions.

Working closely with the Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Legal Officers, the Legal Officer is responsible for the provision of high quality legal advice in relation to strategic issues associated with the discharge of the Commission’s statutory functions.

The Legal Officer assists the Commission to identify and respond to strategic issues associated with the discharge of its statutory functions.

With the support of Senior Legal Officers, the success of the incumbent is on their ability to exercise their own judgement in carrying out their legal duties.

Requirements

To be successful in the role you must possess:

  • Bachelor of Law or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of South Australia.
  • Demonstrated post admission experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide legal advice regarding the discharge of statutory powers.
  • Ability to provide legal advice in relation to the enforcement of the criminal law.
  • Capacity to identify trends and issues of relevance to the Commissioner in the discharge of his or her statutory functions, and to make recommendations accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality written legal advice on matters of ordinary complexity in a clear, timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to distil legal concepts into appropriately worded policies and processes.
  • Willingness to undertake professional advancement through participation in continuing legal education.

Special conditions

Applicants will be required to undergo psychometric profiling.

Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory security and integrity assessment.

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1.
