As a Materials Engineer, your primary responsibility is to evaluate material specifications, coordinate with procurement, and support cost estimations with a technical perspective. You will assess material take-offs, validate design compliance, suggest viable alternatives, and contribute to data-driven decision-making across the pre-construction lifecycle. Your expertise will help reduce material-related risks and enhance project value through cost- and time-efficient solutions.Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key liaison between design, quantity surveying, and procurement teams during estimation phases
- Review and validate technical specifications of materials proposed in project designs
- Assist in validating quantities, specifications, and constructability of materials for accurate estimation
- Propose alternative materials that offer cost, time, or sustainability advantages
- Coordinate with suppliers to confirm material pricing, lead times, and risk factors
- Maintain a robust materials database with updated benchmarks, specifications, and vendor references
- Support technical evaluations and prequalification of vendors and material suppliers
- Document material-related assumptions and value engineering proposals for each project tender
Job Requirements
- Bachelor\’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management
- 6-7 years of experience in a design-build, contracting, or consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of construction materials, sourcing logistics, and technical compliance
- Familiarity with estimation software such as Candy, CostX
- Working knowledge of design software (AutoCAD, Revit) and BIM tools is a plus
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
