The School of Biomedical Sciences
As one of the largest teaching schools at UNSW, the School of Biomedical Sciences is uniquely placed to inspire the next generation of science and medical graduates. It plays a key role in arming future doctors, health practitioners, biomedical scientists and a broader community of health professionals, each of whom will bring a specialised and diverse skill set to the frontiers of medical science.
The school holds strong cross-faculty connections with chemistry, maths, physics and engineering; along with academic staff and key partners whose work is based in the clinical or biotech space, this creates a naturally synergistic and innovative environment.
Looking to the future, with the emergence of the (HTH) next door and a physical bridging link that will land right in the heart of the school, this will create even more opportunities to realise bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench biomedical research, teaching and education and patient-science interactions.
Why this role matters:
Are you working in an emerging area of pharmacology or therapeutics? Perhaps an area we haven’t heard of yet?
The Department of Pharmacology is growing, and we are looking to recruit someone who is excited to apply new and emerging techniques in pharmacology and beyond to address significant health issues. Our current interests include fundamental molecular pharmacology, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal & urogenital pharmacology, neuropharmacology, and ageing. More recent areas of innovation include cancer systems biology/pharmacology, enhancing fertility, physiological culture methods and patient-derived organoid models.
At Pharmacology, we are particularly excited to hear from researchers using artificial intelligence (AI) to address drug design and discovery, or with pharmacogenomics expertise or personalised medicines experience. But don’t let this limit you – apply and tell us why your area of research will make us leaders in the discipline!
Skills and experience:
Level B
- A PhD in a related discipline (e.g. pharmacology), and/or relevant work experience.
- Expertise in one of the emerging areas of pharmacology is desirable.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact, with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
- High level communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
- A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or knowledge of industry.
- Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Level C (in addition to the above):
- Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
If you’re excited about this role and think you have what it takes, but your experience doesn’t align 100%, we still want to hear from you and would encourage you to apply.
