Victoria Police’s ICT Division has been charged with creating world class software solutions to transform policing in Victoria. The frontline police officers and first responders will be using the new applications every day, in all aspects of their duties.
As we embark on one of the most exciting software developments, you will have the opportunity to shape the outcome of major software systems that will directly impact and transform modern frontline policing. The systems will need to be dynamic, secure and robust to allow for the challenging environment in which they are used. This is a greenfield project and will give you the chance to “do it right from the start”.
As a Senior .Net Software Engineer, you will have the crucial role of designing and building the application framework whilst mentoring the team and championing our standards. You will join a growing and passionate engineering team dedicated to solving complex problems by building and maintaining solutions for our first responders to activities like:
- Manage critical incidents and state-wide events (including natural disasters),
- Support proactive policing in the community, and
- Assist specialist units tackling issues such as youth offending, road safety, and cybercrime.

As a Lead .NET Software Engineer, your duties will include:
- Working with a variety of leaders, including police from across the organisation, our intelligence practitioners, and senior management.
- Design, develop and implement technology solutions, such as APIs, Pub/Sub systems.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams.
- Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.
- Work on bug fixing, improving code quality and application performance.
- Write clear technical documentation.
- Engage in continuous improvement of all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
- Mentor and coach junior developers and team members as needed.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related disciplines.
- At least 5 years of senior experience developing with Microsoft technologies and infrastructure.
- Proven experience in a leadership role.
- Excellent understanding and experience with:
- defensive coding and security
- solution design
- fit-for-purpose application frameworks
- application architectural patterns
- implementing high throughput real time solutions using Pub/Sub systems
- coding in the .NET framework (C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core)
- Agile scrum methodology
- Previous experience with Restful API development.
Requirements and relevant information:
- One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
- VPSG-6 salary range $130,673 – $174,869 p.a. plus superannuation.
- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. (Australian Citizenship is a must. PR not sufficient)
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
