The SharePoint Administrator interfaces heavily with the primary user community of engineers and scientists to provide technical leadership primarily in the areas of SharePoint site/content delivery, programming, development, and administration. Working in conjunction with other content facilitators and site owners, this position participates in promoting site and content delivery, site access, and user adoption with stakeholders, collaborates with developers, and manages project and scope delivery and tests.Reporting Relationship
Work is performed under the direction of the Application Services Manager, IT Director, and/or under an assigned designee.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced SharePoint systems administration of complex assignments, maintain, support, administer, install, and troubleshoot a variety of enterprise-level technology platforms and operating systems including, but not limited to, enterprise-level Microsoft technologies (e.g., Office 365, Skype, Exchange, SharePoint, etc.), and/or business-specific technology platforms.
- Provide web portal support, development, and design initiatives with a strong emphasis on back-office content management and web-based solutions; delivery of content through MS SharePoint Portal Services and MS SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) and similar enterprise web-based content delivery systems;
- Develop, update, maintain, and provide related SharePoint systems configuration, related Structured Query Language (SQL) database administration, and support, with a strong emphasis on back-office content management and web-based solutions;
- Work and manage SharePoint add-on products utilizing SharePoint Admin Console and Powershell;
- Develop and integrate web parts using .NET and related development frameworks in an MS SharePoint Portal Services architecture;
- Effective, advanced-level utilization of management tools of assigned systems (e.g., PowerShell, scripting, Command Line Interfaces (CLI), Graphical User Interface (GUI), console applications, etc.).
- Administer security controls, governance, compliance, and data loss prevention to secure enterprise computing assets from vulnerabilities and threats according to company policy (e.g., anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware, etc.) as it relates to this position.
- Perform advanced systems administration of enterprise or business-specific technologies as assigned, including, but not limited to, company practice areas, Action Groups, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Health and Safety, Corporate Development, and others as may be required of this role).
- Work with the client stakeholder community to propose/provide applicable content, site, and system changes;
- Assist SharePoint Content Facilitators with content movement within and between sites, including review, clean-up, management, and configuration of SharePoint accounts, sites, and user access permission management;
- Monitor SharePoint trends (e.g., site usage and growth, disk space usage and growth);
- Support the SharePoint site Content Facilitators/Coordinators with setting up alerts and enforcing use guidance;
- Regularly audit SharePoint environment, identifying and reporting governance violations;
- Provide useful and meaningful SharePoint usage activity, analytics, and reporting metrics;
- Provide day-to-day support in the administration of assignments, including database maintenance, performance optimization, change request modifications, and related development activities;
- Perform preventative maintenance and problem identification of various systems and database resources; make recommendations and implement corrective actions; work with team members and/or vendors as needed to effectuate timely resolution;
- Develop (program, debug, and test) new and extend existing tools and applications, including desktop and Web-based systems, interactive reports, and data collection systems;
- Develop, maintain, and update supporting technical documentation library, including maintenance of application and system documentation for changes/enhancements;
- Implement operating system, SQL Server, and SharePoint patches and cumulative updates;
- Adopt, execute, and improve governance and configuration processes to implement approved content, workflow, configuration changes, and new solutions;
- Deliver products and services adhering to basic fundamentals of project management methodologies (e.g., initiate, plan, execute, close); lead and participate in performing effective project planning, needs assessments, scope/design/model planning, creation of statements of work, change management, etc. through to implementation and project closure.
SharePoint Administrator Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, configure, and deploy MS SharePoint-based solutions integrating front and backend systems using disparate MS SQL databases;
- Developing custom applications/components where appropriate to support enterprise projects or leveraging the use of Out Of The Box (OOTB) SharePoint features and functionality;
- Developing connectors to consume and interface with external lines of business application data for mission-critical applications;
- Design, develop, and maintain custom components such as master pages, web parts, workflows, user controls, and InfoPath forms for corporate intranet websites and public portals deployed to SharePoint environments;
- Delivery and optimization of standard features (i.e., search/indexing, content management, and Shared Service Providers (SSPs))
- Provide day-to-day coordination efforts in the administration, maintenance, and optimization of related enterprise business systems, including maintenance, performance optimization, change request modifications, and related development activities;
- Work to deliver solutions using SharePoint workflows, web service interfaces, InfoPath forms, SQL Reporting Services, business intelligence (BI), and other related technologies; and
- Work with standard ASP.NET technologies, SharePoint object model and web service interfaces, SharePoint feature packaging and deployment to deliver solutions.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
The SharePoint Administrator requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science from an accredited college or university, along with a minimum of five (5) years minimum of IT industry-related experience or over nine (9) years of relevant experience supplemented by coursework in the field or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.The Senior SharePoint Administrator requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science from an accredited college or university, along with a minimum of seven (7) years minimum of IT industry-related experience or over eleven (11) yearsTechnical Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and expertise in developing forms and automation with MS Power Platform, Power Apps, and Power Automate (Flow). Familiarity with Dataverse, and Power BI. Experience supporting multiple SharePoint farms in enterprise-level SharePoint 2016 and later environments. Experience with Tier 2 system administration and DevOps, including patch management, troubleshooting, and restoration of services of multiple SharePoint farms. Experience deploying SharePoint migration and upgrades, including SharePoint, Server, and SQL Databases 2016, 2019, or 2022. Experience investigating and resolving SharePoint performance issues, such as front-end web server and indexing performance. Experience troubleshooting issues in a growing, multiple classifications, multiple enclave environment, including SharePoint configuration and web part issues. Familiarity with Office365 applications/tools and SharePoint-related tools, such as Sharegate or similar.Communication Skills
The employee must demonstrate an advanced ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, office procedures, software and hardware manuals, and other technically complex documents. Ability to write correspondence, procedures, and presentations conforming to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of non-technical users, including company management and leadership teams, technical professionals, team members, and vendors, professionally and courteously.
