Job description: Class SummaryJob DescriptionThis Animal Control Officer position, the third level in its series, is responsible for overseeing training of new Animal Control Officers with day-to-day activities associated with intake, public relations and care of animals.Essential Duties
- Training employees on the non-public facing aspects of shelter operations
- Triage
- Report writing
- Citation writing
- Handling fractious animals
- Feeding animal return to community Cat Program
- Disposal of animals in accordance with governing ordinances and public interaction skills
- Conducting minor investigative work to build cases effectively, such as animal bites, adoption/rescues, abandonment cases, animal cruelty
- Serving as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction or acting as a trainer
- Monitoring and ensuring all animals are in good health, cages are disinfected and cleaned, and animals are properly fed, watered and proper medication is given, if needed
- Evaluating animals to determine which are adoptable, if rescue should be contacted or if the animal needs to be euthanized
- Preparing court documents and distributing them to appropriate courts
- Ensuring inventory supplies are stocked and up-to-date and prepared daily records of euthanasia solution for the State Department of Agriculture
- Answering phone calls and/or emails from citizens and responds appropriately regarding animal abuse, rescue coordination, or reported bite cases
Other Job Requirements/Information
- This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
GradeSalary will be dependent on education and experience.Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Three years of animal control/enforcement experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensing/certification/training completion of the following:
- Asp Baton training
- Basic Chemical Capture
- Crematory training
- Euthanasia training
- Bites and Neglect/Cruelty training
- Pre-Exposure Rabies vaccine or current titer
- Defensive Driving Certificate
