DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the direction and priorities of the Manager by coordinating, overseeing, and ensuring the team’s execution of the following operational activities and ensuring standard services are meeting appropriate targets:
o Translate customers’ business requirements into efficient data pipelines, logical, physical data model, then manage the data model version control and change control
o Provide high quality data, identify and define common data requirements, and design conceptual structure and plans to the current and long-term data requirements of UW Medicine constituents
o Define and maintain data technology architecture, data integration architecture, data warehouse (DW) taxonomies and namespaces, and meta-data architecture
- Prioritize and distribute the workload throughout the team, manage the day-to-day workflow, and report to the manager the status of work assignments
- Provide a point of escalation for operational and other service issues
- Identify and propose service management improvements
- Provide advice, coaching and mentorship to team on work techniques, best practices, and operational expertise
- Serve as the manager’s delegate to represent the team to customers, project managers, technical leadership and organizational management
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Math, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience
- 6+ years’ experience must include the following:
- 6+ years’ recent healthcare or IT experience
- 1+ year(s) of formal mentorship for technology professionals
- Familiarity working with cloud data warehouse platforms such as Microsoft Azure SQL, AWS Redshift or Snowflake
- 3+ years’ experience with SQL to write complex, highly optimized queries across large volumes of data, database design, data warehouse design, query performance tuning and writing stored procedures
- Strong applied experience leading small to medium scale projects working through the complete development lifecycle for analytics solutions including reports and applications, or interfaces
- 3+ years’ experience with programming tools including SQL Server programming, SSIS, C#, ASP.Net, Visual Studio or Java, and scripting
- Familiarity with Epic Clarity Data Model and Reporting
- Strong SQL Server Database programming experience, including complex query optimization and performance tuning
- Extensive understanding of Data Modeling best practices
- Extensive subject matter domain expertise
- Extensive understanding of basic principles of data normalization/denormalization, abstraction, and dimensionality as interface, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of optimizing and troubleshooting database development for performance, including analyzing query statistics and knowledge of how data in a relational database is stored, retrieved, and processed
