You will need to attach a resume and cover letter.Position SummaryThe Senior Risk Specialist is part of the Loss Prevention and Insurance team in the Budget and Finance Service Area, Risk Management Division. The focus of the Loss Prevention Program is to manage the City’s risk by identifying business operations that may impact the safety of employees and the public, evaluating the risks and hazards, and recommending risk treatment options. The Loss Prevention team develops citywide policy, administers the Loss Prevention Policy to ensure compliance with Oregon Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OR-OSHA) workers’ compensation self-insured loss prevention efforts, provides consulting to bureaus, coordinates training activities, and plans safety events.As a Senior Risk Specialist, you will:
- Provide technical expertise in loss prevention, environmental health and occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and risk management to identify hazards, assess complex exposures and safety concerns, and recommend loss control techniques.
- Develop and manage citywide employee safety and loss prevention programs, which includes policy development and review; monitoring federal, state, and local regulatory changes; policy change coordination and communication.
- Conduct risk assessments, data analysis, and audits.
- Coordination of loss prevention efforts related to insurance carrier recommendations and assistance with insurance program.
- Coordinate and manage vendor contracts related to environmental health and safety and risk management.
- Develop training materials, presentations, and written technical reports.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- Lead and coordinate meetings and workgroups.
- Appropriately use any required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Navigate any area (climb ladders, towers, stairs, etc.) to access and evaluate occupational safety exposures.

- Experience in comprehensive loss prevention programs related to compliance with OR-OSHA workers’ compensation self-insured loss prevention efforts or other similar safety programs.
- Skilled in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, ergonomic evaluations, exposure monitoring, and creating detailed reports and presentations with recommendations and corrective actions.
- Experience performing data analysis and trending on claims related to worker’s compensation, general liability, and automobiles.
- Experience in creating and delivering occupational health and safety, environmental, loss prevention, and risk management training and presentations.
Although not required, you may have: one or more of these desirable skills/degrees/experience.An associate or bachelor’s degree in safety systems/engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental science/engineering, risk management, or closely related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education.Three or more years of progressively responsible work experience in environmental health and occupational safety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, and risk management. * Preferred professional designations include:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM),
- Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) Building Inspector.
- Adobe Captivate to develop training.
- Origami Risk Management Information System.
- Experience with and/or willingness to learn insurance program requirements and enterprise risk management.
