Job description: DescriptionKey Responsibilities: – Perform gross examination and preparation of histology specimens – Accurately describe tissue samples and perform dictations using Dragon Epic Beaker – Dictation system – Cut and embed specimens for further analysis – Assist with morgue duties, including lifting and transporting remains and releasing remains to designated areas – Pick up specimens from the OR every morning and assist with morgue processes 2-3 times a week – Accurately perform gross examination of surgical pathology specimens, per department protocol and/or competencies – Provide necropsy assistance, including brain and spinal cord removal, per department protocol and/or competencies – Assist in technical work in the Histology Lab while maintaining laboratory standards in the areas of processing, embedding, microtomy, and routine/special staining – Section and stain intra-operative frozen sections per department protocol and/or competencies – Accurately perform daily workload statistics – Perform frozen section grossing, cutting, and staining as part of the Frozen Section Workflow – Maintain reagents and troubleshoot the tissue processor (daily, weekly, and yearly) using Leica Peloris and Leica ASP 6025ary – Operate tissue processors daily – Maintain the grossing station (daily and weekly), including supplies inventory of the grossing area – Accession specimens using EPIC – Pathology – Receive bodies from nursing services and document accordingly Secondary Responsibilities (covering call-outs and vacations): – Pick up specimens from three different areas within the hospital – Assist in autopsies – Dispose of solid tissue and liquid wastesSkillsHistology, Specimen processing, Pathology, StainingTop Skills DetailsHistology,Specimen processing,Pathology,StainingAdditional Skills & QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have: An Associate’s Degree ASCP or AAPA certification At least 3 years of relevant experience Familiarity with EPIC and Dragon transcription systems (highly preferred) Additional Skills & Qualifications: – Strong attention to detail and organizational skills – Ability to work independently and as part of a team – Excellent communication skills – Physical ability to lift and transport remainsExperience LevelIntermediate LevelPay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 – $65.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
