The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise on occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, environmental compliance, and sustainability as well as helping manage the environmental management systems for the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics facility in Rochester, NY. The EHS Specialist will have site responsibility for Operations, Quality, Product Support, Engineering, Research and Development, and Facilities and will be expected to work across multiple functions including administrative support services. The EHS Specialist will provide the company leadership by working across various environmental, health and safety disciplines.This position is in Rochester, NY.The ResponsibilitiesResponsible for leading the occupational safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and environmental sustainability programs.Evaluate, plan and implement EHS program components, including the development and delivery of training materials and written procedures.Perform accident investigations and emergency response planning; develop EHS policies and programs for occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and/or environmental programs consistent with regulatory requirements and Ortho EHS standards.Implement and manage EHS and project action plans, provide technical support to ensure corporate, business franchise and site goals are met.Facilitate and lead compliance audits, internal audits, and routine inspections.Manage nonconformance’s, participate as the EHS representative in external audits and inspections by local government agencies.Assure all records are properly maintained and reports are prepared/submitted in a timely manner.Support multi-site projects and process improvement initiatives across the Franchise as needed, and develop and report site EHS metrics and key performance indicators.Perform work-related duties as assigned.The IndividualRequired:A minimum of a University/Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Occupational Health, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Safety, Environmental Compliance, and/or Industrial Hygiene or equivalent work experience will be considered.Intermediate to expert MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Health & Safety), EPA and state regulations and on a local, state and federal level.Technical knowledge of occupational safety and environmental program components.Experience in identifying, evaluating and controlling environmental, health and safety risks in the workplace.Excellent influencing, planning, organizational and time management skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, such as public speaking.Must be a team player, be able to work independently, and be process oriented.Minimal travel is expected with this position (up to 5%).The EHS Specialist will be expected to have a level of availability outside of normal business hours to help assist with permitted work for shutdown activities (confined space, crane lift, etc.) as well as emergency situations at the site should they occur.The EHS Specialist will also be expected to provide their own transportation in order to travel between multiple buildings in Rochester to support business needs.This position requires periods of standing, production floor/facility mobility (ex: bending, climbing ladders, etc.), and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.PreferredExperience working with EHS data reporting and tracking systems.Safety or environmental certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CHMM are desired.Master’s degree in in Occupational Health, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.The Key Working RelationshipsInternal – Plant/Site Director/Manager, Site Manager(s) & Supervisors, Quality Manager/Engineers, Facilities, Human Resources, Occupational Health Services, Supply Chain, Functional Leaders within Finance, IT, Regulatory, Corporate/Site Base EHS and Executive LeadersExternal – Local, State and Federal Regulators; EPA and Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation, Public at LargeThe Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics are representative of a warehouse distribution environment and, in the event of damaged or broken finished products, the handling of biological materials (blood pathogens) and potentially hazardous chemicals. Up to 40% of the time desk (extended period of sitting) and 60% of the time standing or extended periods of time on the warehouse floor/facility mobility (ex: bending, climbing ladders, etc.), and the ability to lift up to 30lbs. Flexible work hours to help warehouse distribution operations; will be expected to have a level of availability outside of normal business hours to help assist with permitted work for shutdown activities (confined space, crane lift, etc.), emergency situations and/or to accommodate warehouse distribution operations schedule (holiday, weekend, off-shift) at the site as required.Salary TransparencyThe salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $80,000.00 to $136,000.00.
