MAP Co is a state government entity responsible for the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Federation Square and the new Melbourne Arts Precinct public spaces.

Set to boost Melbourne’s standing as a creative and cultural capital and to harness the immense potential of one of the most vibrant arts corridors in the world, MAP Co is delivering capital projects including the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project that includes, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; an 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; significant upgrades to the State Theatre; and new restaurants and bars throughout the space.

Federation Square supports a diverse mix of businesses that service residents, CBD workers and local and international visitors alike. It is proudly home to nationally significant resident cultural institutions the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT), the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia (NGVA) and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). MAP Co works collaboratively with these organisations to support and leverage a wholistic approach to precinct programming.

About the Role

MAP Co is seeking a Loading Dock Supervisor to play a crucial role in managing and coordinating the activities within the loading dock. The primary responsibility will be to oversee the loading dock operations, ensuring compliance with safe work practices and optimising logistics. Your ability to positively engage with a range of stakeholders and have excellent organisational skills will be essential in maintaining efficiency, productivity, and a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all personnel, visitors, and property within the loading dock in accordance with procedures, policies and legislative regulations.
  • Proactively review loading dock layout and operational procedures to plan continuous improvements.
  • Establish diligent goods management through the implementation and maintenance of logistical systems to accurately record loading dock movements, specifically for deliveries/collections. Ensure a very high level of customer service and presentation in the loading dock and associated areas of responsibility to keep a professional appearance.
  • Liaise with MAP Co Security Personnel in controlling access for contractors and suppliers to the loading dock.
  • Coordinate logistics with all users including tenants and their food and beverage suppliers to ensure compliance with lease arrangements including the use of cold rooms and freezers.
  • Ensure all personnel within the loading dock and responsible areas are practicing safe work practices meeting the WHS Act and Regulations.
  • Monitor areas outside of the loading dock to maintain order in the internal and external storage cages.
  • Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, security breaches, violations of policy and procedures and manage any potential trespassers.
  • Submit reports of daily loading dock activities, any relevant operational activities and escalate any OHS issues.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with emergency management procedures.
  • Proactively identify any issues with plant and equipment and report promptly to facilities staff.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated Organisational Skills: Proven track record in effectively organizing and managing daily loading dock operations. This includes clear communication, overseeing delivery personnel, and maintaining a clean and orderly working environment. Strong decision-making skills are essential for coordinating contractor staff and ensuring high levels of efficiency and productivity.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Compliance Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, including but not limited to plant safety, manual handling, and hazardous goods management as per relevant OHS regulations. Ability to implement and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety inspections, and prioritize the well-being of all personnel within the loading dock.
  • Effective Communication and Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally with personnel, visitors, and contractors. A strong focus on customer service is crucial for addressing daily operational issues and promptly escalating security concerns as necessary.
  • Proactive Security Management and Emergency Response: Proactive approach to security management, including the ability to identify and report suspicious activities, potential security breaches, and irregularities promptly. Demonstrated experience in responding to emergency situations in accordance with established procedures to ensure the safety of all individuals within the loading dock.
  • Ownership and Initiative: Ability to take ownership of tasks, anticipate potential issues, and proactively implement solutions. Demonstrated initiative in making independent decisions when required and actively contributing to the overall success of loading dock operations at Federation Square.

Desired Experience/Qualifications:

Prior 2-3years of experience as a loading dock supervisor at a large, complex facility or similar.

Good working knowledge of workplace health and safety and other compliance regulations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a keen attention to detail

Licences Required:

Victoria driving licence.

Forklift operation licence.

Elevated Work Platform over 11 meters licence.

Health and Safety Requirements

Competent with manual handling and able to lift 20kgs.

Low to high exposure to moving objects, event construction materials and noise.

Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks, high visibility vest, and safety boots may be required on site for safety.

Position Specific Requirements

Hours of work will be rostered Monday to Friday 7am to 630pm

At times out of ordinary hours work may be required particularly on some Saturdays for larger events, which will qualify for overtime (OT) or time off in lieu (TOIL). Reasonable notice will be provided.
