What you will be doing:

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Total Asset Management (TAM) team as a Fire Safety Officer. Asset Management translates organisational objectives into asset-related decision, plans and activities using a risk-based approach to deliver defined service outcomes. The Position will assist the NBMLHD Fire Safety Manager in ensuring that Fire Safety and Compliance issues for hospitals across the district are met and maintained. The position will also deliver Fire Training and Fire/ Evacuation Exercises across the NBMLHD. The FSO role is responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure that appropriate written fire safety and fire emergency response procedures are available.
  • Provide advice and assistance to management to ensure that all employees participate in fire safety education and that records of education are maintained
  • Liaise with maintenance and service personnel and/or contractors to ensure all fire safety equipment and fire protection systems are tested and maintained in accordance with relevant standards and regulations. Ensure related records are maintained.
  • Monitor day-to-day fire prevention, protection and fire safety functions within the facility. (Regular utilisation of the sample forms in Appendix 1, or similar should be used)
  • Develop a working relationship with the local Fire Brigade and related emergency services.

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed: * Completed a Fire Safety Officer (Health) Accreditation Course, with Fire and Rescue N.S.W. or equivalent in accordance with N.S.W. Health Department Circular No 2010/24; completed Module of Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training (TAE40110 or equivalent) ); current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role or experience in the Fire industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment, implementation and evaluation of fire safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated Competent computer skills including the capacity to effectively use Microsoft Software including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the development and implementation of emergency services strategies, programs, procedures and Training and the monitoring of its effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of the relevant Work Health & Safety Legislation and the ability to ensure that safe work practices are adopted and/or maintained within the area of responsibility.
